About the Author: I was a nomadic traveler for nearly twenty six years ( 1992- 2018). I traveled the world like very few before me, solo on the back of local motorcycles, with a kit of 7 analogue cameras as a backpack, challenging my/the self to the edge.
My range of travel adventures shifted from one edge of the scale to another sometimes within minutes; like a camilion I could check out from a luxurious ...and head into ... I would wear and strip costumes like a travel detective.
That was true until I met my son, on 29t of October 2014. This is where I had to drop a line. My responsibility to/towards my son made me reconsider/risk assessment.
I was 44you. I ticked nearly every box of self fulfilment and I was ready to sacrifice/... for someone else, my children.
The first 4 years as a family was full with comfortable trips, expensive flights, easy car rentals and five starts hotels. But then at the age of 48, at a most unexpected turned of events, my life turned up side down when I returned to an empty family home and could not find my son. I was brutally separated from him for many months.
Six months of endless Court …the contact with my son resumed under shared care …my financial situation turned desperate to the level I turned homeless and I had to reassess my options.
They can take the …but they cannot take..the from….
Despite global pandemic and desperate financial situation, I could not not not continue to travel the world. It is if someone would control my breath. I had to adopt/adjust myself /needs as there is a little child with his own agenda/set of needs.
Destination: Prioritising safety, health and security, I had to narrow down my destination list to nearby Europe. The sea turned to be the main budget free child activity. I also had to focus on finding cheap flights and Greece, Italy the Balkans became more and more attractive.
Transportation changed from comfortable car hire for 10-14 days waiting at the airport to local buses and trains depended on timetables, weather and flexible itinerary.
Accommodation had to shift for comfortable 4-5 starts hotels with kids club and all inclusive activities to simple accommodation sometimes at the very last minute
Food change from top restaurants and breakfast buffet to self-catering at small kitchenettes and low budget local eateries, some are hidden gems hard to find, with the sporadic opportunity quality pizzas
While I could appreciate and enjoy even less then this, I had to focus and prioritise my son needs and endless requests.
It was not about the gadgets/toys/comfort that money can buy but the companship that strong father-son bond may for into his childhood memories that may share his entire life.
And this is how this series of books and videoclips came to light, out of desperate wanderlust to keep on traveling/moving, experimenting and... :Family Travel Adventures & Itineraries on a Budget !
